  2.             SHADOW-INA-BOX INSTALLATION README

  4. INTRODUCTION
  5. -------------

  7. This package is a collection of most of the popular utilities
  8. available in sunsite.unc.edu, ftp.cert.org, ftp.x.org,
  9. ftp.qualcomm.com, ftp.cac.washington.edu, and ftp.acs.com to provide
  10. shadow passwords for your Linux system as of June 13th, 1996.
  11.  
  12. Previously, in order to have shadow passwords on your Linux box you
  13. had to install and tweek:
  14.  
  15.  1) shadow-960129.tar.gz
  16.  2) wu-ftpd-2.4-fixed.tar.gz
  17.  3) sudo-1.2-shadow.tgz
  18.  4) xlockmore-3.9.tar.gz
  19.  5) xdm.tar.gz
  20.  6) qpop2.2.tar.Z for pop mail with shadow passwords
  21.  7) imap-4.BETA.tar.Z for Pine E-mail pop
  22.     NOTE:    We leave you to modify your own inetd.conf to include
  23.         imap2 service.  This line is adequate:

  25. imap2    stream  tcp     nowait  root    /usr/sbin/tcpd  /usr/sbin/in.imapd

  27.  8) pcnfsd.linux.tgz
  28.  9) bwnfsd.tar.gz
  29.  
  30. 10) adduser.shadow-pl ( optional )

  32. INSTALLATION
  33. -------------
  34.  
  35.  This package puts all these utilities together for easy install.
  36.  
  37.  a) get shadow-ina-box-1.0.tgz from sunsite.unc.edu or some mirror.
  38.  b) do a tar zxvf shadow-ina-box-1.0.tgz
  39.  c) cd shadow-ina-box-1.0
  40.  d) verify the checksums for the packages using md5 and comparing to
  41.     the CHECKSUMS file.
  42.  e) take a look at 'Install' script, 'modify.c' source code, and ./extras/
  43.     directory.
  44.  f) run 'Install >& install.log &'
  45.  g) wait for a long time.  Maybe go out and eat while you're waiting.  :)
  46.  h) verify the changes, check 'install.log', and you're done! :)

  53. check out one of the trusted Linux anon-ftp sites near you.  (I always
  54. like to try to get any package straight from the source.  But my

  58. provided.
